Welcome to the Liverpool Reads website. It has information on Liverpool Reads and this year’s book, ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar.
We want you to join the region’s ‘big read’ so we’ve included a list of ways to get involved, resources to download and games to play.
We want you to get in touch, as well, so we’ve made it possible to
e-mail us with or without an e-mail account.

Holes Reading Group
From January to March 2005, as part of Liverpool Reads, the Reader Centre ran a Holes reading group for women learning English at the Duke Street centre of Liverpool Community College. Although the women had lived in Liverpool for varying lengths of time, they were sharing the experience of improving their English and enjoyed the opportunity to listen and read aloud in the group, as well as watching the film of Holes and borrowing Holes audiobooks provided by the Central Library.
Several of the women came from African backgrounds and were particularly interested in the book's treatment of the curse on the Yelnats family. We discussed whether we believed such things as curses exist, or whether we make our own good or bad luck: is it Stanley and Zero's friendship and commitment to each other that makes things come right in the end, or is there really a curse on Stanley's family that he lifts by helping Zero?

Why do we need a Constitution?
For its pilot year, Liverpool Reads has been run by a steering group of people representing local organisations including Liverpool City Council (Excellence in Cities and the Library Service), Bluecoat Arts Centre, The Reader Office at Liverpool University, National Museums Liverpool and Liverpool Culture Company.
In order to be able to raise funds to develop the project further it has been decided (with advice from experts) that it would be best to set up Liverpool Reads as an independent organisation (an Unincorporated Association).
The draft Constitution that will make this possible is
available by following this link. We hope that the members (that's anyone who has been involved in Liverpool Reads or has received the newsletter) will vote to adopt this at the AGM on 2nd March.

this link to view the AGM agenda.
This will enable Liverpool Reads to set up its own bank account and raise funds from many more sources in order to build on the achievements of 2004/5.
