Frank reading from Millions at the Palm House

If I had a million pounds

If I had a million pounds
I could have whatever I like
A DS, an X-BOX 360
And a really big quad bike

And if I had some left over
I’d decide to help the poor
And then I would make sure
That they are not to be ignored

But it all comes down to one choice
Comes down to one thing
I could either just be normal
Or I could be bling bling!

George Anderson, 10

Anonymous poem – ‘Millions’ challenge

My mum’s hugs
So long ago
A squeeze
A smile
A memory
What is a hug?
A hug is a million dreams
Days gone by, always remembered
Here’re my grandsons
Running for a hug, a smile, a squeeze
I love you millions I reply
These things live on in dreams

Young People’s Workshop anonymous poem

If I had £1,000,000
I’d go to Florida on my holiday
I’d buy a villa, I’d paint it vanilla
I’d go for a swim in the deep blue sea
I’d go and buy a plasma TV

I’d buy a camera to make a movie
I’d call it ‘The Groovy’
It would be a great hit, a great success
Maybe even make the press

I’d book a visit to the sky
It was so fantastic, certainly go there when I die

bullet pointPoetry from the Colomendy Residential Trip

Finally set free

I was standing at the bus-stop
when I came to see
a beautiful flock of colours
gliding over me.

Beautiful birds swirling and twirling,
Flowing through the sky,
like magical sparks
Cast by a wizard of greatness.

Those beautiful birds were like multi-coloured spirals
Twirling through the deep blue sky.

The Other Story

Birds were all flapping their wings happily
because they didn’t want to be in a cage
and they are flapping away.

While St Francis and Damian were talking away
people on the buses looking out of the windows
for some action.
Trying to see the birds flying low over Damian’s head

Just then all the birds were going into the pet shop
and started attacking the pet-shop owner
for locking them in a cage.

They were like the speed of light,
they could have hurt someone that day!

Millions

I saw beautiful bright booming birds when I was outside
Zooming birds zapped up and shot in the air
A big humungous shopping trolley
set the beautiful birds off in their boxes.
The pet shop had catfish and carp that looked silly
The birds shot out of the dark brown boxes
The birds shot and boomed all out of the boxes
Birds were beautiful and the bus driver got blinded

The little boy set off the birds in the wild
The cars were passing by
The birds were flapping in the wind
St Francis swooped down from heaven.

The shop keeper was surprised at what sorts of birds and how many he had.

The boy let the birds go and the birds were let off. They set off like fireworks in the sky.

Saint Francis talked to the boy about what he did to become a saint and the boy said he would try it too.

The Runcorn Bridge was going to the sky like it was going to heaven, the boy thought.

Some of the birds were still flying around. The birds were blending in with the sea.

Parakeets were nesting in the trees in the park and the zebra finches flew onto the Runcorn Bridge.

The boy was still talking to Saint Francis. Then a car went by and Saint Francis disappeared.

The boy was left on his own and the boy ran home and all the birds sang a song as he left. A sad song.

All the birds went to sleep and so did the boy at the very same time.

They say after that day the boy saw all of the other saints that lived all over the world, but now they live in a better place.

I forgot to say that they had a big wad and then they only had some Euros instead of the £20s and the £5s and the £10s, and they had a new mum.

The boy was happier than he had been for a while and his brother was better to him even.

Fireworks were shooting off,
the colours really bright.
Shooting off like Catherine wheels,
the really blinding lights.

The fireworks were really birds,
So colourful and neat,
just walking past this lovely sight,
it’s a really lovely treat.

There were boxes on the hillside,
from the shop right down the road.
He’s obviously let the birds go
from the heavy, heavy load.

People saw a boy talking
to the clear breathing air.
St Francis of Assisi,
came down to make the world fair.

They could talk until the sunset,
when people go to send
a letter or a love note and
their conversations end.

St Francis

When In was alive I created a miracle
I saw a little boy do the same
It was like I became famous
All I did was release birds pout of cages

But this boy released more
It didn’t make a difference
Because we both did a miracle
And also felt relief

He asked if I knew a St Maureen
But it didn’t ring a bell
I said, “I’m very busy these days.”

Down below there were people queuing for a bus
There were lots
From a distance they were like tiny dots
The bus arrived in a rush

In the pet shop there was lots going on
Carp and cat-fish swimming around
Birds were flapping their wings
Whilst cramped in a cage

The birds that the boy released
Were like a rainbow in the sky
You couldn’t hear a single cry.

The Pet-shop keeper

I saw a little boy one day
With a sack of money
Just the sight made me feel rather funny
He bought a bird, then not just one
Quite a lot, quite a sum.
I saw him take them over the road.
He opened one box, then another
All of a sudden there were two dozen.

There was a man in a robe, he looked quite old,
older than me and you.
I wonder what he’s going to do
“St Francis of Assisi,” said the boy.
“Hey, you over there! Has your mum ever told you
not to talk to strangers?” said a nosey lady.
