Refugee Boy

Refugee Boy tells the story of Alem, a young boy whose mother is from Eritrea and whose father is from Ethiopia. Set during the time of the Eritrean/Ethiopian war, after a series of raids on his village, his father decides to take Alem to London for a holiday. However, after a few exciting days of sightseeing in London, Alem wakes up one morning to find that his father has gone. Seemingly an act of cruel abandonment, it soon becomes apparent that Alem’s father has left him in England in a desperate attempt to save him from the Eritrean/Ethiopian war. With help from the Refugee Council and his new friends, Alem begins to build his life in England, but not without further heartbreak for the young man to overcome.
